Inwood is a hamlet and census-designated place on the South Shore of Long Island in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, New York. The community is served by the Lawrence Public Schools. Inwood is included in the Five Towns area of Nassau County which also includes the Hewletts, Lawrence, Cedarhurst and Woodmere. It was first settled c.1817, and at that time it was called North West Point. After the Civil War it was called Westville. The name of the hamlet was changed to Inwood when the first post office was established in 1889.
